If you have a valid Ontario health card, you may be able to receive physiotherapy funded by OHIP, at no cost to you. Here is who qualifies and how to get started.
Who qualifies for OHIP-covered physiotherapy?
With a valid Ontario health card, you can receive government-funded physiotherapy if you are:
- 65 years or older
- 19 years or younger
- Any age, after an overnight hospital stay, or an outpatient or day-surgery procedure, within the last 12 months, for a condition that needs physiotherapy
- A recipient of Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)

Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. A physician’s referral is not required to access OHIP-covered physiotherapy. We always recommend speaking with your doctor about your condition before starting treatment.
What to bring to your first visit
If you have any X-rays, ultrasound reports, or other relevant medical records, please bring them. They help our physiotherapist understand your condition and plan the right care for you.

Is OHIP physiotherapy really free?
For eligible patients with a valid Ontario health card, OHIP covers the cost of your physiotherapy. We will confirm your eligibility before you begin.
I am over 65. Do I automatically qualify?
A valid Ontario health card plus being 65 or older is the main requirement. Call us and we will confirm your eligibility quickly.
Do I need to see my family doctor first?
No referral is required. We still recommend checking in with your doctor about your condition, and bringing any imaging or reports you have.
